Silverdale, WA (Apex Airpark) - 8W5

Airport last visited May 4, 2013

Pattern/Approach

Be alert for the P-51 Prohibited Area over the Bangor Sub Base just a few miles north of the airpark. Fly a standard left pattern for runway 17, right pattern for runway 35. Pattern altitude is 1525' MSL. Caution for turbulence from the airflow over the trees when approaching runway 35 with northwest winds. Due to a rise in the center of the runway, be alert since there is no line of sight between the runway ends when on the ground. It's requested to do your run-up on the paved pad at midfield on the east side, make your announcement from there, then head down to the end of the runway for departure.

Parking and Fueling

The sole taxiway is on the east side of the runway, with access down a fairly steep side taxiway to a parking area on the east side. Parking also in the turf area on the southwest side of the runway. There are no services for transient aircraft, and no fuel available.

Transportion

No services, need to pre-arrange transportation with friends.

Dining

No services, but the Apex Airpark hosts summer BBQs.

Lodging

We've only stayed with friends in nearby Seabeck, but the Oxford Suites are only 3 miles from the airpark, in Silverdale.

To-Do

Apex is a privately-owned airport, open to the public, providing convenient access to the Silverdale area and the Hood Canal region.
