McMinnville, OR - KMMV

Airport last visited June 17, 2021

Pattern/Approach

Arriving from the north, we usually start descending around Scappoose, OR, cruising in the descent to arrive over Hillsboro, OR with enough altitude to stay above 2700', the top of the Hillsboro Class Delta airspace. The McMinnville airport environment is probably first picked up when seeing the two 747s of the adjoining Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum and nearby waterpark. The McMinnville pattern is at 1000', left traffic on all runways.

Parking and Fueling

Transient parking is available through the FBO, Potcake Aviation on the NW section of the field. No charge for short term transient parking, at least with a minimal fuel purchase. Self service and full service fuel prices are some of the lowest in the area.

Transportion

Potcake Aviation hosts Enterprise rental cars on the field. Haley at Potcake Aviation is helpful.

Dining

Located a mile west of the airport, The Diner serves up enjoyable American diner food. In McMinnville itself, we enjoyed the Golden Valley Brewery and the Gem Creole restaurants. The Gem Creole was taken over by La Rambla in 2021, which specializes in Spanish cuisine. We enjoyed broasted chicken at the Larson House in Yamhill.

Lodging

We spent an enjoyable time at the Hopewell B&B in 2014, located south of the airport in a rural area not far from wine touring, with a great breakfast, pictured below, but they retired in 2019. In 2021, the Yamhill Vineyards B&B provided not only a great breakfast, but an informative Vineyard 101 tour.

To-Do

McMinnville is a great base for exploring the wine country of the Willamette Valley and their great Pinot Noir and Riesling varietals. We've enjoyed great wines at MonksGate Vineyard, Maysara Winery, plus great Willamette Valley and Cascade Mountain views while sampling great wines at the beautiful Brooks Winery and Youngberg Hill Winery. The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is across the street from the airport main gate, and is a world class air and space museum.
