Eastsound, WA (Orcas Island) - KORS

Airport last visited Sep 2, 2023

Pattern/Approach

From the south, we usually approach via Arlington, Skagit/Bayview, then near or through Whidbey's airspace. Our favorite approach is to let down passing Anacortes to cruise through the East Sound with the Orcas Island hills on either side, normally with a straight-in approach to runway 34. If a full pattern is flown, runway 34 has right traffic, with runway 16 using standard left traffic. Pattern altitude is 1031' MSL. The runway has a slight 1.2% gradient, sloping downhill to the north.

Parking and Fueling

Transient parking is on the southeast ramp. No charge for same day parking. Self-service 100LL is available on the field.

Transportion

The Orcas Airport Crew Car is available, but from the transient ramp, it's only a half mile walk to the main town and harbor area. Rental cars are available from Orcas Island Shuttle.

Dining

A few good restaurants are along the waterfront, the best being the Madrona Bar and Grill, with a nice view of the East Sound from their balcony. The New Leaf Cafe has good reviews, but is only open for breakfast and dinner, not lunch.

Lodging

The Outlook Inn appears to be a nice hotel with good reviews, but we haven't tried it yet. The Outlook Inn has good views and a range of rooms from affordable to expensive, with a nice restaurant and lounge.

To-Do

Island touring.
