Pierre, SD - KPIR

Airport last visited September 3, 2022

Pattern/Approach

Expect standard left hand patterns on all runways, 13/31 and 7/25. If landing on runway 7 from the west, be prepared to taxi back down the runway to the ramp area, since the taxiways to the north of runway 7 have been removed.

Parking and Fueling

There is ample parking on the huge ramp in front of Mustang Aviation. Mustang Aviation is owned by Jim Peitz, who flies a great aerobatic routine in his Bonanza on the airshow circuit. Full-serve 100LL only is available from Mustang Aviation, which has a great lounge, and the owner and staff are very helpful in coordinating lodging and dining options.

Transportion

Crew and rental cars are available from Mustang Aviation. In 2022, we were met at our airplane with a brand new Toyota courtesy car for our use overnight.

Dining

Cattleman's Club Steakhouse served up excellent filet steaks south of Pierre. La Minestra has very good Italian food in downtown Pierre.

Lodging

In 2019, lodging was available at the Ramkota Hotel downtown, with a free shuttle from the airport included, and a discount arranged through Mustang Aviation. In 2022, we stayed at the more upscale Clubhouse Hotelwith another nice FBO rate from Mustang.

To-Do

Pierre is the South Dakota capital city.
