Pattern/Approach

Roche Harbor Airport is a privately owned and operated airfield, with prior permission required (360-378-3500) prior to landing. The nearest automated weather is at Friday Harbor on 135.675, so I usually overfly the field to check the windsock. Pattern altitude is 1100' MSL, with a standard left pattern on both runway 7 and 25. Runway 25 has a downhill 50 foot gradient from the displaced threshold to the east end of the runway. There is no line of sight between runway ends. Here's a nice view of a late afternoon approach over Roche Harbor to runway 7.

Parking and Fueling

Visitor parking is available in the grass at the northwest of the runway, for a $10 parking fee. No parking on the grass is requested during the rainy season from November to April.

Transportion

Roche Harbor Village is within easy walking distance of the airport. Chevy Trackers and mopeds are available from Susie's Mopeds to explore further around San Juan Island.

Dining

There are three enjoyable restaurants in Roche Harbor, the Madrona Bar and Grill, McMillin's Dining Room, and the Lime Kiln Cafe, all within walking distance of the airport.

Lodging

Roche Harbor has a number of historic, waterfront, boutique and family accommodation options.

To-Do

Roche Harbor has access to trails and other activities, including whale watching, kayaking, and shopping.
