Willapa Harbor, WA - 2S9
Airport last visited August 4, 2012
From the Puget Sound, a route over Shelton and Elma will point you directly at Willapa Harbor. You will cross over a decent ridge to the NE of the airport, then descend to a left pattern on either runway 11 or 29. With a field elevation of only 13 feet, pattern altitude is 1013' MSL.
Transient parking is available on the field, which is usually uncrowded, except for August during the annual Oyster Fly-in.
We've only visited Willapa Harbor during the Oyster Fly-In, so no transportation recommendations yet.
EAA Chapter 1528 has been hosting an Annual Oyster Fly-In in August since 2010. Fresh, succulent Willapa Bay oysters are expertly prepared by a professional chef from a makeshift kitchen, and long rows of tables and chairs are set up in the large airplane hangar.
The nearest lodging is in South Bend, WA.
