Concord, CA (Buchanan Field) - KCCR

Airport last visited July 17, 2023

Pattern/Approach

When the Bay area is socked in with low clouds and IFR weather, Concord is an easily accessible airport with year-round great weather. From the north, plan to work with Travis Approach if descending through the Sacramento Valley, or Norcal if descending via Sonoma/Napa. From the south, an easy approach is over Livermore and southwest of Mt Diablo to Walnut Creek. With strong winds sometimes present from the west, expect a crosswind landing on either runway 32 or 19.

For a San Francisco Bay Tour from Concord, contact Nor Cal Approach on 120.9 or 127.0. Depart to the North toward the Benicia Bridge, north of the Berkeley Hills. Continue west over Carquinez Bridge, generally between 2000' and 2550'. Stay north and west of the Bay Bridge, allowing overflight and great views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate bridge.

Parking and Fueling

Transient parking is available on ramp on the south-east side of the field, and 100LL is available through the local FBO, Pacific States Aviation, which has a convenient lounge and facilities.

Transportion

Our daughter used to pick us up, but moved to Colorado. Rental cars are available.

Dining

Within walking distance of the airport is the Vineyards Restaurant at the nearby Concord Plaza Hotel, plus a Starbucks, fast food restaurants and a Trader Joe's across the street from the Concord Plaza.

Lodging

The Concord Plaza Hotel is located right on the field, with a walkway from the local FBO at Pacific States Aviation.

To-Do

The Concord airport provides great access to the San Francisco and Oakland areas, and all the activities in the Bay area.
