Friday Harbor, WA - KFHR

From the south over the Puget Sound, usually use Whidbey Approach on 118.2 within 20 miles, normally at the south end of Whidbey Island. Expect handoff to CTAF/Island Traffic, within 5-10 miles, on 128.25. If flying more overland from the Skagit/Bayview area, you can avoid Whidbey's airspace by approaching via Anacortes. Pattern is at 1113', right traffic to 16 and 34. When on runway 34, straight-ins are common when traffic is low.
Expect to use transient parking on the NE section of the field, which often gets quite busy in the summer months. Plan to park with two aircraft per parking area in the summer. No charge for same day parking. There is a new convenient pilot lounge at the north end of the transient parking area, with a clean restroom and table area. The code for entry are the first four numbers of the CTAF frequency.
Transient parking is just a four block walk from the main town and harbor area. If you buy a case of wine from the Island Wine Company next to the ferry landing in Friday Harbor, the owner will transport you and the wine from the harbor to the airport.
Some good restaurants are along the waterfront, the best being Downrigger's, which reopened in November 2016, after being rebuilt after a fire in August 2013. Two other good dining options are the Blue Water Bar & Grill and Vinny's Italian.
The Tucker House Inn appears to be a nice Bed and Breakfast, with the adjoining Coho Restaurant, but we haven't tried either yet.
Great harbor sightseeing, with bike tours of the island available.
